Databases for the field of mechanical engineering, materials science, manufacturing technology

BIB 50-020

What you need to know

General information on how to use the database information system DBIS can be found in the help card BIB 50-010.

The subject areas Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Production Engineering, Mining and Metallurgy, Transport Engineering, Precision Engineering can be found here.

What you have to do

  1. Use the TOP databases selected by the HFU Libraries in the subject area of mechanical engineering, materials science, manufacturing technology, mining and metallurgy, traffic engineering, precision engineering for your research.

    • You can only access the TOP databases off campus if you have previously installed and opened the VPN client (Helpcard BIB 10-010).

  2. Below you will find two search examples in the TOP database
    TEMA Technology and Management:

  3. Search example: Search for a specific journal article

    • Dial into the university network via the VPN client (Helpcard BIB-10-010).

    • DBIS opens.

    • Enter "TEMA Engineering and Management" in the quick search bar and click "Go!" or click the subject area Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Mining and Metallurgy, Transportation Engineering, Precision Engineering from the subject overview.

    • Select the TEMA Technology and Management database and click on the link at "Start search".

    • In Advanced Search, search for the essay: "Automated driving" (title) by Eckstein (author).

    • The short title display opens.

    • The video linked here explains how to search a journal article in the "TEMA" database.

  4. Search example: Search by topic and refine the hit list using filters

    • Perform steps 1-5 of the first research example.

    • In the Advanced Search, enter the term "electromobility" in the Global Search column.

    • You will receive a hit list.

    • Refine your search by applying the filters on the right.

To do so, click on the plus sign and select suitable subject areas, years, languages, etc.

    • Subgroups will open, which you can select to make your search result more specific.

    • For example, you can choose the following filters:

      Subjects: 3U-Environmental pollutants, pollution...
