For SLC teachers only - exercises, tests and submissions/tasks

FELIX 10-151

What you need to know

Your course template contains different elements that are used to calculate the final grade. The visibility of these course elements is initially blocked for learners. This Helpcard describes how you can unblock these course elements for students. In doing so, your course may contain the following assessed course elements:

H5P Exercises: Interactive exercises implemented with H5P.

Tests: Test consisting of FELIX test questions used in individual lessons as learning checks, as well as in online tests at certain times during the semester.

Tasks/Submissions: FELIX  "Task" course element that requires students to submit a file and/or enter text online.

Please note: All course elements in your course that are marked with a (g) in the title will automatically be included in the assessment. If there are certain exercises, tests or tasks that you do not use, please inform FELIX support so that they can be removed from the automated assessment.

What you have to do

  1. Check /customise if necessary / release online tests: Familiarise yourself with the tests by clicking in the "Preview" tab in the course view. Check to see if the test is working smoothly. If you find any errors, please contact FELIX support via the email form "E-Mail to Support" (at the very bottom of the course).
Before releasing the test, define a test period within which students must complete the test if required.
This External link opens in a new window:video shows you how to prepare an existing online test for completion.

    • To set the test timer, first click on "Course editor" under "Administration" to switch to the editing mode.

    • Navigate in the structure on the left to the desired lesson and to the test you want to work on.

    • Click on the "Test configuration" tab, activate "Set test period", confirm with "OK" and enter the corresponding period within which the test should be completed. "Save" this setting.

    • The following test configurations are pre-set:
If the test does not contain free text questions, the correction is set to "Auto" and the results are displayed directly to the students.
If the test contains free text questions, the correction is set to "Manual by course supervisor" and the results are only displayed to the students after correction.

The following test options are pre-set:
The number of solution attempts is limited to a maximum of one attempt, i.e. students can only take the test once.
If you want to change this, in the "Options" tab, change the number of solution attempts to the desired number. Do not forget to save your changes.

    • As soon as you have finished editing the test, make it visible for your students (also under Administration > Course editor):
Select the "Visibility" tab, uncheck "Blocked for learners" and click "Save".
Close the editor by clicking on the "red cross" in the upper right corner and select "Yes, automatically".

    • If you do not want to use a test, please let us know so that it can be removed from the automatic calculation of the final grade (grading). To do this, use the email form at the bottom of the course and describe exactly which test (title) from which lesson (title) should be removed from the grading.

    • If you want to adapt a test within a unit/lesson to your needs (change existing questions / add more), please see Helpcard  FELIX 10-152.

  2. Check / customise if necessary / release H5P exercises: Familiarise yourself with the H5P exercises by clicking on "Start learning module" in the course view. Check whether the H5P exercise is working smoothly or whether there are any errors. If you find any errors, please contact the FELIX support via the email form "E-Mail to Support" (at the very bottom of the course).

    • Make H5P exercise visible for students:
Open the "Course editor" under "Administration" and click on the desired exercise.

    • Select the "Visibility" tab, uncheck "Blocked for learners" and click "Save".

    • The "Maximum number of solution attempts" for H5P exercises is set to "unlimited". If you want to change this, scroll down in the "Learning Content" tab and change this to the desired number of solution attempts. Don't forget to save your changes.

    • Close the editor by clicking on the "red cross" in the upper right corner and select "Yes, automatically".

    • If you do not want to use an H5P exercise, please let us know so that it can be removed from the automatic calculation of the final grade (grading). To do so, use the email form at the bottom of the course and describe exactly which H5P exercise (title) from which lesson (title) should be removed from the grading.

  3. Check / customise if necessary / release tasks: Familiarise yourself with the tasks by opening them in the course view. Check if the task is formulated correctly or if there are any errors. If you find any errors, please contact FELIX support via the email form "E-Mail to Support" (at the very bottom of the course).
For tasks you can set a deadline in the workflow.

    • To be able to edit the task, first click on "Course editor" under "Administration".

    • Navigate in the structure on the left to the desired lesson and to the task you want to work on.

    • Click on the "Workflow" tab and, if desired, add your desired deadline for submitting a task under "Submit by ...".

    • When entering a submission deadline that is to apply including the entered day, you must enter 23:59 for the time.
Example: Deadline is on 15 October at 23:59 (including 15.10.).
If you enter the 15 October at 00:00, this would exclude 15 October.

    • As soon as you have finished editing the assignment, make it visible for your students (also under Administration > Course editor):
Select the tab "Visibility", uncheck "Blocked for learners" and click "Save".
Click on the red cross (top right) to close the course editor. Select the "Yes, automatically" option to publish the change.

    • If you do not want to use an assignment/assignment, please let us know so that it can be removed from the automatic calculation of the final grade (grading). To do so, use the email form at the bottom of the course and describe exactly which assignment/task (title) from which lesson (title) should be removed from the grading.

  4. Grading: In the "Grading" area, all assessable elements (exercises, assignments and tests) as well as the grade for the final exam are summarised and automatically weighted to calculate a final grade.
You can view the calculation in the "Grading Tool" (under "Administration").

    • If you do not use individual exercises, tests and/or tasks, please be sure to let FELIX Support know so that they can be removed from the automated assessment.

    • At the end of the semester, enter the grade for the final exam into Grading.
For more information, see the Helpcard: 10-153.

    • View Grading: Under "Administration" and "Assessment tool" you can view the current gradings of students.
Click on "Grading" and then on the specific area (Homework, Online Test, etc.) you want to see the grading of.
Select the "Participants" tab to view the current grading status of individual students.
Use the cogwheel above the table to adjust the columns you are interested in (e.g. username, last name, first name, points, status).
