For SLC teachers only - changing online-tests and tests within a unit

FELIX 10-152

What you need to know

You want to customise a test (recognisable by the pencil symbol) within a unit/lesson to your needs (change existing questions / add more)? For this you need a copy of the test so that you can change it. Contact FELIX support with this request via the email form and name the test(s) which you want us to make a copy of.
Please remember: You cannot make changes to a test that has already been opened and/or completed by students during the course.

You have found an error in a test or you do not want to use a test?
Then please inform FELIX Support. Use the email form at the bottom of your course and describe exactly which test (title) in which lesson (title) and, if applicable, which question it is.

What you have to do

  1. In the Authoring area under "My Entries", open the "Test" (learning check) that we have copied for you.

  2. Under "Administration", select the "Edit content" option.

    • The editor of the test will be opened.

  3. Change existing questions

    • The existing question may be linked to a question pool and you will have to "detach" it for processing by creating a copy of this question in your test.

    • To do this, click in the question in the tab "Question pool" and "Create and edit copy".

    • Select the first tab (name depends on the question format) to edit the question and then check the "Points" tab to adjust the "Points per Answer" and total points to your changes, if necessary.

  4. Add new questions

    • Click "Add Item" in the menu bar at the top and select the desired question format.

    • Edit the question according to your needs.

  5. Insert new section

    • Some tests contain several "sections". These are used for structuring within the test (e.g. the summary of "Listening comprehension questions") but also for configuring the question progression within this section.
If you want to create new sections, you have to check the configuration of this section or adjust it if necessary.

    • Some tests contain several "sections". These are used for structuring within the test (e.g. the summary of "Listening comprehension questions") but also for configuring the question progression within this section.
If you want to create new sections, you have to check the configuration of this section or adjust it if necessary.

    • The section will be inserted below the already existing structure.

    • Give the section a title and save.

  6. Embedding the modified test into your course template

    • Close  the test editor after completion with the cross (top right). The changes made will be saved and you can check them again in the test view.

    • Also close the test view with the cross (top right).

    • Open the corresponding course template in which the modified test is to be inserted and under "Administration" > "Course editor" select the desired test element in which the modified test is to be included.

    • In the "Test Configuration" tab, click "Replace File".

    • The "Search for referenceable learning resources" window opens in the "My entries" tab.

    • Find the test you have created in the table and click on it.

    • The test has now been replaced.

    • If you have only corrected errors or replaced questions with the same score, continue with step 8.
If you have replaced the test and changed the previous total score in the process, you must reactivate the grading scale as described in step 7 so that it is adjusted to the new score.

  7. Reactivation of the grading scale

    • Click on "Edit grading scale" and there under Grading Scale on "Change".

    • The "Select grading scale" window opens.

    • Select the "Percent in grade (max 100 points)" Grading Scale again and confirm the entry with "Select".

    • Confirm the selection of the Grading Scale with "Save".

  8. "Save" all changes at the bottom of the page and close the editor by clicking on the "red cross" in the upper right corner and select "Yes, automatically".

    • Don't forget that next semester you will once again be provided with a copy of the general course template with the original test, and you will then need to re-incorporate your modified test as described here.
