What you need to know

Please note:

For students:
This Microsoft product is suitable for private use only. No further support can be provided by the university's IMZ.

For employees:
Use of this Microsoft product is not permitted on official devices. No support can be provided by the university's IMZ for personal use.

Instead, employees must install the state-licensed Microsoft products, see Helpcard Software 20-010.

The usage period ends when the HFU account expires.

Please use the following login name:

[HFU user name] @
Do NOT use your HFU email address.

Further support for these programs is unfortunately not possible!

What you have to do

  1. Before you start the registration process, please note the following:

    • Important:

      Office 365 Education must not be used on work computers. Instead, the state-licenced Microsoft products must be installed, see Helpcard  Software 20-010.

      This is not a service offered by the Computer Center, but a free offer from Microsoft to HFU employees and members. As a result, you take full responsibility for the use of Office 365. To support teaching at HFU, the Computer Center still recommends using the officially offered services such as FELIX, alfaview, MEMEO, bwSync&Share, etc..

      We operate these services ourselves or they are provided by third-party providers with whom we have the necessary contractual agreements. Accordingly, we can provide full support for these services, both for teaching staff and students. If you have further questions, please log a ticket via the service desk.

    • Please note:
      Microsoft guarantees neither the availability nor the integrity of your data. Back up your data independently on a local data medium!

      After deleting your HFU account (e.g. by de-registration), Microsoft can no longer verify your university affiliation and you will no longer be able to access this data.

  2. To use it, open the Office 365 for Educational Institutions( page in your browser. In the text box that appears, enter your login name ([HFU user name] and click the blue "Get started" box. You will receive a confirmation email with a confirmation code to your HFU-E-Mail-address. In the dialog box that follows, you will be prompted to fill out the form. Enter your first or last name there and set the password and enter confirmation code. Then click "Register".

    • Note: The university has no influence on the sending of the email with the confirmation code.

    • Please use the following to log in:

      [HFU user name]

  3. The Office portal page opens. You can work with Office online.

  4. If you would like to obtain a desktop license, please write a ticket to the service desk at External link opens in a new under "Other services and requests".

  5. To install Office 365 and email, please refer to Helpcard EMAIL-20-030.
