Accessing Mailbox with AppleMail

What you need to know

In addition to direct browser access via the Mailbox portal, see Helpcard Mailbox 20-015, you can also access your mailbox via an email client. These instructions describe what you need to do to access your Mailbox emails via AppleMail.

What you have to do

  1. Open the system settings and select “Internet accounts”.

  2. Add a new account and select the "Microsoft Exchange" option.

    • The login screen for “Microsoft Exchange” is displayed.

  3. Enter your name and email address and confirm your entry by clicking on “Register”.

    • Example for students: xyz12345@stud.hs-furtwangen.de
      Example for HFU employees: xyz1234@hs-furtwangen.de

    • The Microsoft login screen with user login and password is displayed.

    • If the login screen asks for a “User Name” and you cannot continue:

      Please cancel the setup and switch to “German” in your language settings first, if you have not already done so. In the past, login problems have occasionally occurred when “English” was set as the system language. The language change may require a system restart. Then start setting up the email account again.

    • HFU network login problems: Please try to set up your mailbox via the university network first. If access via the HFU WLAN does not work, try logging in from home. Apple Mail can then also be used within the HFU WLAN.

  4. Confirm the Microsoft Exchange query by clicking on “Sign in” and log in with your HFU account login.

  5. Finally, select the services you want to use and confirm their use by activating the switch.

    • The account has been successfully created and AppleMail can now be used.
