Importing course elements from another course

FELIX 30-005

What you need to know

Individual or multiple course elements can be imported from one course to another.

The basic requirement for importing is that you either have ownership rights for both courses or have been granted copying rights for the course from which you want to copy the module. During import, the module configuration and, in most cases, the module content (but not the participant data) are also copied.

What you have to do

  1. Click Administration in the course in which you want to import course elements and open the "Course editor".

    • The course editor will open.

  2. Select "Import course elements" in the shaded area (above).

    • The "Import course elements" wizard opens.

  3. Search for the desired course.

    • If you have ownership rights in the original course, you will find the course in the preset list “My Courses” in the wizard that opens.

If you do not have ownership rights but the copy right is set, you must first locate the course in the “Search” tab in the wizard that opens.

Use the filters to search for the course if necessary. If necessary, you can also customize the table using the gear icon on the right.

If you cannot find the course, you do not have copy or import rights.

  4. Select the desired course and click "Next".

  5. Select the course element(s) you want to import. Click on "Next".

    • The wizard gives you important hints, e.g. when importing a group task ("Groups are not taken over"). It is partly possible to select which components of the course element should be imported.

  6. In the last step you can "Select files", e.g. when importing html pages.

    • In this case, it is important that you activate and copy linked files, such as images. Then click on "Finish".
If there are "no files to copy", then click "Finish".

    • The course elements are imported and displayed to you in the structure on the left.

  7. Click the red cross (top right) to close the course editor. Select the "Publish automatically" option to publish the change.

    • The course view opens.

  8. If you have set in-course links in the course elements, these must be renewed.
