Inserting an HTML page

FELIX 30-040

What you need to know

There are various options for providing information in FELIX:
(1) "Document" module: In this module, you show a completed document (Office documents, PDF or even the display of graphic files). With the help of OnlyOffice, you can also share Office documents for joint editing (see HelpCard 30-220).
(2) "HTML page" module: This block allows you to create welcome, info and content pages using the integrated HTML editor.
(3) "Page" module:  The "Page" building block allows you to create welcome, info and content pages using a content editor with a block-based approach (see HelpCard 30-045).

If you want to create the content directly in FELIX and have no experience with HTML pages, the creation effort for the "Page" module is significantly lower, as layout and content options can already be selected in advance.
If you choose the HTML editor to create pages, you will find the necessary information below.

What you have to do

  1. In your course, click on "Course editor" under "Administration" (top left).

    • The course editor will open.

  2. In the course structure (left), activate the course element under which the new element is to be inserted.
Under "Insert course elements" (above) in the category "Knowledge transfer" select the "HTML page" element. Alternatively, you can use the "Quick-Add" search function.

    • You can also move the element later by dragging and dropping.

  3. To rename the course element, enter the title that is displayed in the course in the "Title" field. If necessary, abbreviate the title in the "Title in course menu" field.
    "Save" your entries.

    • Note: The "Title in course menu" is displayed on the left side of the structure. Since the structure is fixed to a certain width, a maximum of 25 characters is recommended.

    • Under "Insert additional information" you can enter e.g. learning objectives and instructions for learners.

    • Under "Visibility" and "Access" you can regulate the visibility and access to the block if required, e.g. depending on the group or date (see Helpcard 30-000).

  4. Click on the "Page Content" tab.

    • In this tab you have three options:

      1) "Create" to create an HTML page directly in FELIX (see Step 5).
      2) "Select" for integrating an HTML page that is already stored in the course storage folder (see Step 6).
      3) "Import" for uploading files (HTML or PDF) (see Step 7).

  5. Select "Create" and give the new HTML page a title and confirm with "Create".

    • An HTML editor will open.

    • Enter your desired content (or a space holder) and click "Save and close".
      Then continue with step 8.

    • We recommend that you enter the complete contents via the course view (see Step 8).

  6. You can use the "Select" option to select an existing file in the course.
    Then continue with step 8.

    • Then select the desired page in the storage folder.

    • If you have included a page from the storage folder twice in the course, please bear in mind that if you edit it, this page will change in both course elements.

  7. You can use the "Import" option to import an existing file. Upload this file with "Select file".

    • For example, you can upload a PDF and integrate it into the individual page.
It is also possible to upload a page that you have created with an external HTML editor.

    • However, avoid opening or editing this externally created page in the HTML editor, as parts of the formatting may be lost.

  8. Click on the red cross (top right) to close the course editor. Select the "Publish automatically" option to publish the change.

    • We recommend that you then edit the "page" (with the exception of the externally created HTML page) in the course view and not in the course editor, as the changes do not have to be published there. To do this, select the new course element in the course view and edit it using the "pencil symbol" (top right).

    • The function fields of the FELIX text editor are similar to those of other text editors. Under "Formats", you can give your text predefined formats, for example headings or paragraphs and text blocks in different font sizes and colored backgrounds. Then save and close your changes.

  9. If you need several individual pages, you should not copy them, but paste them again instead. The copy does not recreate the HTML page and changes in the original also affect the copy.

  10. You may have to reduce the page view (CTRL - ) to be able to edit the individual page - especially if you have inserted a long description text.
