Inserting a single page

FELIX 30-040

What you need to know

The "Single page" element allows you to design welcome or information pages, or to provide instructions for your students. You can use PDF files and / or HTML pages.
Our video clip might also be useful.

What you have to do

  1. In your course, click on "Course editor" under "Administration" (top left).

    • The course editor will open.

  2. In the course structure (left), activate the course element under which the new element is to be inserted.
Under "Insert course elements" (above) in the category "Knowledge transfer" select the "Single page" element. Alternatively, you can use the "Quick-Add" search function.

    • You can also move the element later by dragging and dropping.

  3. To rename the course element, enter the title that is displayed in the course in the "Title" field. If necessary, abbreviate the title in the "Title in course menu" field.
    "Save" your entries.

    • Note: The "Title in course menu" is displayed on the left side of the structure. Since the structure is fixed to a certain width, a maximum of 25 characters is recommended.

    • Under "Insert additional information" you can enter e.g. learning objectives and instructions for learners.

  4. Click on the "Page Content" tab.

    • In this tab you have two options:

1.) "Create page and open in editor" to embed an HTML page created in FELIX (see Step 5)
2.) "Select page" to embed pages (HTML or PDF) you have created outside FELIX (see Step 6)

  5. Select "Create page and open in editor", this will open an HTML editor

    • Enter your desired content (or a space holder) and click "Save and close".

    • Publish the element by closing the course editor with a click on the red cross (top right). Select the "Yes, automatically" option to publish the change.

    • We recommend that you edit the "Single page" in the course view afterwards and not in the course editor, because then the changes do not have to be published there. To do this, select the "Single page" element in the course view and edit it using the "pencil icon" (top right).

    • The function fields of the FELIX text editor are similar to those of other text editors. Under "Formats" you can give your text predefined formats, for example headings or also paragraphs and text blocks in different font sizes and coloured backgrounds. Then save and close your changes.

  6. With the option "Select page" you can select a "File" that already exists in the course, a "Create file" that has a file name of your own choice, and an "Upload file".

    • For example, you can upload a PDF and integrate it into the single page.
Similarly, it is also possible to upload a page that you have created with an external HTML editor.

    • However, avoid opening an externally created page in the HTML editor, as parts of the formatting may be lost.

    • The new element will not be displayed in the course view until it has been published (click on the cross in the upper right corner).

  7. If you need several individual pages, you should not copy them, but rather paste them again. The copy does not recreate the html page and changes in the original also affect the copy.

  8. You may have to reduce the page view (CTRL - ) to be able to edit the individual page - especially if you have inserted a long description text.
