Video Editor

FELIX 40-300

What you need to know

You can use the video editor to add (interactive) elements to videos and use them for quizzes and the video task module (see Helpcard Internal link opens in the same window:30-250).
You have the following editing options in the editor: You can add chapters, annotations, segments, comments and quiz questions to the respective video.

Chapters serve as jump marks for easier navigation and better comprehensibility of the content. Longer videos should always be divided into chapters.
Annotations can be added to highlight particularly important passages or to supplement certain aspects. In addition to text, links can also be added that lead to further information or other videos, for example. The annotations are displayed in the video at the relevant point with the specified duration.

Segments are used to name or mark certain sequences and are required for the task in the "Video task" course element.

Comments can be placed at a specific point in the video to clarify key statements, provide additional information on the topic or notes on the following video section. The video flow is interrupted to read the comments and the comment and author are displayed.

Quiz allows you to add individual quiz questions to the video. There are currently 12 different question types to choose from.

What you have to do

  1. Open the authoring area and import the video to be edited, if you have not already done so.

  2. Select the video by clicking on the title and open the video editor under Administration.

    • The video editor will open.

  3. Click on "Add" in the "Chapter" tab and set the chapter name and start time. "Save" your entry.

    • The chapter is displayed with its start and title and can be edited at any time using the pencil icon. Add further chapters if necessary.

  4. Add annotations in the "Annotations" tab and define the start and end or the duration. You can also assign different colours to the respective annotations. Then "Save" your entry.

    •  Click on "Add" again to create further annotations, which you can edit in the same way as the first one. Annotations can also overlap in time (see Timeline). You can use the arrows to the right and left of the annotation field or the corresponding drop-down field to navigate between the individual fields and edit them.

  5. Select "Add" in the "Segments" tab to define segments (video sections) and their start and end or duration. You can assign various "Terms" (categories) to the segments, which you can create and edit using the "Terms" button. To assign a category to the respective segment, you must select the segment at the top and select the respective category from the drop-down menu. Then click on Save. You can add further segments by clicking on Add.

  6. In the "Comments" tab, click on Add and select the type of comment, e.g. text. Specify when the comment should appear and the colour of the comment. Click on Save. By clicking on Add, you can either add a new comment, record a video, import a video or enter a video URL for importing.

  7. Click on Quiz and then on Add. Select the desired question format here. The question can then be further configured.

  8.  Then click on Save.

  9. Click on the red cross to publish your changes.
