Adding an additional factor

What you need to know

You can add an additional login method (second factor) to log in to your HFU account. This gives you more flexibility if, for example, you do not have your smartphone or hardware token to hand and need to access another factor.

You can also choose this method if, for example, you have a new smartphone and want to register it.

What you have to do

  1. Log in to the intranet with your HFU account at External link opens in a new window:https://intra.hs-furtwangen.de/ and click on the "HFU account" tile (see Figure 1.1) or go directly to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.

    • The security information and login methods are displayed (see Figure 1.2).

    • The example already contains 2 factors: iPhone and hardware token.

  2. Now select "Add login method" (see Figure 1.3).

  3. The "Add method" window opens (see Figure 3.1). Select the corresponding option in the list field, e.g. Authenticator App (see Figure 3.2) and then click on "Add".

  4. You will now be prompted to install the app on your smartphone.

    • If you are already using or want to use a different app, install it and click on "I want to use a different authenticator app", see Figure 4.2.

      If you want to choose a different method, click on "I want to set up a different method", see Figure 4.3).

      If you would like to use a hardware token (only for HFU employees), please write a ticket to it-support@hfu.eu with the keyword "Hardware token".

  5. Now follow the instructions as described in Internal link opens in the same window:Helpcard 2fa-10-010 in steps 3 and 4.

  6. Now log out of your account by clicking the "Log out" button at the top right.
