eduVPN at HFU

VPN 10-010

What you need to know

You need a VPN client if you want to access internal services from outside the university network.

After connecting, you are a participant in a virtual private network (VPN) and receive an IP address from the Furtwangen University address range.

What you have to do

  1. Open a browser and enter the server address eduvpn.hs-furtwangen.de. If you are not yet logged in with your HFU account, login and two-factor authentication will now take place. Select the appropriate consent in the following dialogue. Confirm with the “Transfer information” button (see Figure 1.1).

    • You need administrator rights on your PC/laptop to install the client.

    • The eduVPN start page appears (see Figure 1.2).

    • VPN does not work if you are already in the HFU network (e.g. via LAN or WLAN), see Figure 1.3.

  2. Now select the app for your operating system (see Figure 2.1) and download the app.

    • The app is downloaded.

  3. Now install the app by double-clicking on the downloaded file.

    • The app has been installed (see Figure 4.1). The icon is displayed on the desktop.

  4. Now open the app and click on the “plus symbol” (see Figure 4.1).

  5. Type "hfu" into the search field.

  6. HFU employees are in the employee network (see Figure 6.1).

HFU students are in the student network (see Figure 6.2).

  7. Now move the slider to the right (see Figure 7.1).

    • The VPN connection is active (see Figure 7.2).

  8. Now you need to approve the application with the blue button (see Figure 8.1) and log in with two-factor authentication if necessary.

  9. You have now successfully set up eduVPN.
