VPN at HFU

VPN 10-010

What you need to know

Please note: The HFU VPN "Cisco AnyConnect" was updated on 01/11/2020.

If you are still using the HFU-VPN-RZ profile, follow the steps below to update the profile to HFU-VPN2.

You will need a VPN client if you want to access internal services from outside the university network. The HFU VPN client is the Cisco AnyConnect software.

The use of this software is only permitted for research and teaching purposes!

If you have not yet installed the Cisco AnyConnect, you will find the corresponding instructions in the help cards
VPN-10-020VPN-10-030VPN-10-040,
VPN-10-050 and VPN-10-060.

After connecting you are a participant in a virtual private network (VPN) and receive an IP address from the address range of Furtwangen University.

What you have to do

  1. Open "Cisco AnyConnect" as usual and enter the server address vpn.hs-furtwangen.de (see figure 1.1).

    • If the configuration is successful, the profile "HFU-VPN2" is entered in the white field to the left of "Connect" (see figure 1.2).

    • In some cases, the new profile cannot be loaded. In this case, you must enter vpn.hs-furtwangen.de in the white field again the next time you start AnyConnect.

  2. Now click on "Connect" to start the VPN connection.

    • An input window will open.

  3. Enter the data of your HFU account here and confirm by clicking on "OK".

    • You should now receive a message confirming that the connection has been established.

  4. The VPN profile has been successfully updated and you can use Cisco AnyConnect as usual.

  5. Attention:

    • The next time you start a new connection, you should make sure that "vpn.hs-furtwangen.de" is entered again. If this is not the case, enter it again before clicking on "Connect".
