What you need to know

These instructions describe how to access Matrix via the browser (i. e. without a pre-installed client).

If you would prefer to use the client instead, please follow the instructions in helpcard Internal link opens in the same window:Installing the chat client (CHAT 10-010)

What you have to do

  1. Bring up the address External link opens in a new window:matrix.hs-furtwangen.de/#/login over the browser and select ‘English’ from the drop-down menu.

    • The login screen will be displayed.

  2. Make sure that the home server is set to “hs-furtwangen.de”, then click the “Continue” button below the login screen.

    • A login screen appears.

  3. Under the login screen, click on the link ‘Weiter mit HFU-Account" (Continue with HFU account).

    • You will be redirected to the HFU account login.

  4. Log in with your HFU account.

  5. Confirm the note from Matrix’s message regarding the use of the application via the HFU account by clicking “Continue”, then proceed by clicking “Weiter” (Continue).

    • The Matrix Chat interface appears.

  6. Verify your session using the recovery key protection.

    • Please remember to set up a recovery key after logging in for the first time, so that you can regain access to your chat messages the next time you log in. To do this, follow the instructions in Step 7 of the helpcard Internal link opens in the same window:Chat Client Login (CHAT 10-011)

    • If you are unable to log in the first time, you can use this existing key-based authentication to verify your identity.

    • If you still have a second session open (e.g. on your mobilephone, computer, etc.), you can also complete the verification directly on that second device using the emoji comparison.
