Learning path course - tips and tricks

FELIX 10-008

What you need to know

On this helpcard you will find tips and tricks for the "Learning Path" course type.

What you have to do

  1. Course elements that are to be accessed permanently:
There are two possibilities for configuring course elements that are to be accessed continuously rather than sequentially (and that do not have to be "completed"):
1.) Use of the toolbar (especially for elements of communication as well as files).
    2) Use of a structure element without sequence and with course elements that are to be completed voluntarily.

    • "Move" course elements (e.g. messages, email, folders) to the course toolbar (see Helpcard 20-095).

    • If you choose this option, then select a booking method as the access method (see Helpcard 10-030, step 3). If you select the open offers type for your course, then the toolbar can be seen regardless of the enrollment method.

    • Use of a structure element without sequence and with elements to be done voluntarily
In the course editor, add a "Structure" element.
Select "without sequence" in the tab "Learning path" of the structure element.
Insert the individual course elements such as "Forum" or "Messages" underneath.
In each case, select "voluntary" in the "Learning path" tab.

  2. Show icons of course elements in learning path

    • Bring up the settings under Administration.

    • Click the Layout tab.

    • Activate there "Show icons in menu".

    • Save and close the settings by clicking on the red cross in the upper right corner.

  3. Learning path information page for your students
You can find a learning path information page integrated in the course templates (see HelpCard 10-005) or also for External link opens in a new window:download as a PDF. Make it available e.g. in a folder or in a single page (see Helpcard 30-040).

  4. Filter for learning path courses in "My courses" or "My entries" in the authoring area

    • Use the "technical type" filter function.

    • All learning path courses will be displayed.

    • Alternatively, click the gear icon on the right above the displayed table in the authoring area. Select "technical type" (relatively high up in the list) and save.

    • A column with "technical type" appears in the table.

  5. Reminders can be sent, for example with regard to the learning progress to date (see Helpcard 20-090).
