Inserting a "Practice" course element

FELIX 30-240

What you need to know

The "Practice" course element represents another type of exercise in FELIX besides the "Test" and "Self-test" (anonymized tests) elements.

In challenges (consisting of one or more learning series) automatically assessable questions can be worked on according to the "index card principle".
The participants receive automatic feedback (right / wrong).
In case of incorrectly answered questions, the correct solution is shown.
These questions are collected by the system for participants to practice again.

Participants can choose ...
... to only practice new questions.
... to practice questions they have answered incorrectly.
... or to create their own learning series.

Instructors can see at which level the participants have practiced with the practice course element, but not which answers were answered and how.

What you have to do

  1. In your course, click on "Course editor" under "Administration" (top left).

    • The course editor will open.

  2. In the course structure (left), activate the course element under which the new element is to be inserted.
Under "Insert course elements" (above) in the category "Assessment" select the "Practice" element. Alternatively, you can use the "Quick-Add" search function.

    • You can also move the element later by dragging and dropping.

  3. To rename the course element, enter the title that is displayed in the course in the "Title" field. If necessary, abbreviate the title in the "Title in course menu" field. "Save" your entries.

    • The "Title in course menu" is displayed on the left side of the structure. Since the structure is fixed to a certain width, a maximum of 25 characters is recommended.

    • Under "Insert additional information" you can enter e.g. learning objectives and instructions for learners.

    • Under "Visibility" and "Access" you can regulate the visibility and access to the element if required, e.g. depending on the group or date (see Helpcard 30-002).

  4. Click on the "Configuration" tab.

    • For the following steps, you need at least one already created test (see Helpcard 40-130) with at least 10 questions.

    • Click "Add Learning Resource Test".

    • Add as many tests as you wish.

    • If necessary, you can change the default setting of the practice settings.

    • By default, there are 3 levels.
A challenge is completed when 2 question series have been carried out. 10 questions must be answered per series.
When questions have been answered successfully, a level is completed (as a percentage of the correct answers).

  5. Click the red cross (top right) to close the course editor. Select the "Publish automatically" option to publish the change.

    • The new element is not displayed in the course view until it has been published.

  6. Select the "Practice" element in the course view.

    • In the tab "All participants" you can see which students have already practiced on which level.

    • In the Preview tab you can test the practice course element.
