Inserting Video Task

FELIX 30-250

What you need to know

With the "Video task" course element, you can reuse videos for interactive exercises (formative) or tasks with assessments (summative).
Learners have to recognise relevant situations in a video and assign them to a category. An exercise mode and a real test mode are available.

What you have to do

  1. In your course, click on "Course editor" under "Administration" (top left).

    • The course editor opens.

  2. In the course structure (left), activate the course element under which the new module is to be inserted.
Under "Insert course elements" (above) in the "Knowledge transfer" category, select the "Video task" element. Alternatively, you can use the "Quick Add" search function.

    • You can also move the element afterwards using drag & drop.

  3. To rename the module, enter the title that is displayed in the course under "Title". Abbreviate the title in the "Title in course menu" field if necessary.
    "Save" your entries.

    • The "Title in course menu" is displayed on the left-hand side of the structure. As the structure is fixed to a certain width, a maximum of 25 characters is recommended.

    • Under "Insert additional information" you can enter learning outcomes and instructions for learners, for example.

    • Under "Visibility" and "Access" you can regulate the visibility and access to the course element as required, e.g. depending on the group or date (see HelpCard 30-000).

  4. Open the "Configuration" tab and store the corresponding video by clicking on "Select" if the video is already available in FELIX, or on "Import" to upload the video directly from your device.
Give the video an appropriate title.

    • Video files that can be imported, integrated and edited in FELIX must be in .mp4 format.

    • Below the inserted video, you can select which elements stored in the video (annotations, segments, comments and quizzes) should be displayed.
To subsequently integrate or edit these video elements in the video editor, open "Edit learning resource" on the right below the embedded video.
Further information on the video editor can be found in HelpCard XX.

    • In the "Mode" area, you can choose between three different modes:
      1. in "Exercise: assign terms", terms (categories) must be assigned to the video sections (segments).
      2. in "Exercise: Recognize situations", situations (segments) in which the corresponding term (category) occurs must be identified.
      3. in "Test: Recognize situations", situations (segments) in which the corresponding term (category) occurs must be identified.
If the third mode "Test: Recognize situations" is selected, the "Assessment" tab is automatically activated and you can specify the desired form of assessment (points, comment, pass/fail).

    •  Under "Options" you have the option of selecting whether the number of solution attempts should be limited or not.
If the first mode "Assign terms" has been selected, the number of answer attempts per segment can also be specified.

  5. "Save" your entries.

    • You can view your video task using the "Preview" at the top right.

  6. Click on the red cross (top right) to close the course editor. Select the "Publish automatically" option to publish the change.

    • The new module is not displayed in the course view until it has been published.
