Register bwSync and Share

What you need to know

To use the bwSync&Share online service provided by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), you must first register.

What you have to do

  1. Registration:
    If this is your first time on bwSync&Share, you’ll need to register first.

    Open a web browser, such as Mozilla Firefox, and go to the following address: External link opens in a new window:https://bwidm.scc.kit.edu.

    • This will take you to the registration page for state services at KIT.

      Please select Furtwangen University as your home organisation.

  2. Under ‘Home organisation’, select Furtwangen University and click ‘Continue’.

    • You will be redirected to the Furtwangen University registration page.

  3. Log in as usual using your HFU account details.

    • The details you are to be registered with will be displayed on a page.

  4. Please confirm that your personal details are correct and agree to their transmission by clicking the ‘Accept’ button.

    • Please note: You can prevent your personal data from being shared by clicking ‘Rejection’. However, you will then be unable to use the service.

    • You will then be redirected to a confirmation page.

  5. In the menu on the left-hand side, under the menu item ‘bwSync&Share’, click on ‘Service Description’ on page 3 of 3.

    • You will be redirected to the bwSync&Share description page.

  6. Click on the ‘Register’ link at the very bottom of the description page.

    • You will be taken to the actual registration page.

  7. Please accept the terms and conditions at the bottom of the page and click on ‘Register’.

    • Successful registration is confirmed by a welcome page appearing on the screen.

  8. You are now registered and can start using bwSync&Share straight away.

  10. Use via a client: see the Helpcard Internal link opens in the same window:‘Using bwSync and Share with a client’ (BWSYNC 10-030).

  11. Please note: Do not store any personal data as defined by the LDSG or the GDPR in bwSync&Share!

    • Use tools to encrypt your data and thus protect it from unauthorised access! From April 2020, bwSync&Share will offer new options for this. Please read the paragraph ‘What’s new in Nextcloud’ on the help pages.

    • Users have a maximum of 50GB of storage space available. 

    • bwSync&Share is not a backup service! Neither the availability nor the integrity of the data is guaranteed. 

    • bwSync&Share is not designed for teaching or learning purposes! The correct place for making learning materials and lecture notes (e.g. course lecture scripts and practice questions) available, or for submitting seminar papers, is the central learning platform FELIX.
