Inserting a page

FELIX 30-045

What you need to know

There are various options for providing information in FELIX:
(1) “Document” course element: In this element, you show a completed document (Office documents, PDF or even the display of graphic files). With the help of OnlyOffice, you can also share Office documents for joint editing (see Helpcard Internal link opens in the same window:Inserting a document (FELIX 30-220)).
(2) “HTML page” course element: This element allows you to create welcome, info and content pages using the integrated HTML editor (see Helpcard Internal link opens in the same window:Inserting an HTML page (FELIX 30-040)).
(3) “Page” course element: The “Page” element allows you to create welcome, info and content pages using a content editor with a block-based approach.

If you want to create the content directly in FELIX and have no experience with HTML pages, the creation effort for the “Page” module is significantly lower, as layout and content options can already be selected in advance. Further differences between the “Page” and “HTML page” elements can be found in our “External link opens in a new window:FELIX demo course”.

Our example: “External link opens in a new window:Learning tips” in the FELIX guide for students (log-in required)

What you have to do

  1. In your course, click on "Course editor" under "Administration" (top left).

    • The course editor will open.

  2. In the course structure (left), activate the course element under which the new element is to be inserted.
Under "Insert course elements" (above) in the category "Knowledge transfer" select the "Single page" element. Alternatively, you can use the "Quick-Add" search function.

    • You can also move the element later by dragging and dropping.

  3. To rename the course element, enter the title that is displayed in the course in the "Title" field. If necessary, abbreviate the title in the "Title in course menu" field.
    "Save" your entries.

    • Note: The "Title in course menu" is displayed on the left side of the structure. Since the structure is fixed to a certain width, a maximum of 25 characters is recommended.

    • Under "Insert additional information" you can enter e.g. learning objectives and instructions for learners.

  4. Click on the red cross (top right) to close the course editor. Select the "Publish automatically" option to publish the change.

    • The course element has been successfully inserted and you can now edit it directly in the course.

  5. Click on the inserted page and then open the editing mode on the right.

  6. Under "Insert new layout", select a suitable layout for your content area and, if desired, set a background colour, define the spacing or use a hint box.

  7. With "Add content" you can fill your content area.

    • Text-based content elements can be found in the “Text” area. You can use the “H element” to generate a heading. The “Text” offers various layout options (e.g. display in columns - each line is arranged in a new column). With the hint box in the “Text” element, you can provide the boxes with colour coding and icons. If the title is selected, it is also possible to make the boxes collapsible. You also have elements for creating “Tables”, “Formulas” and “Codes” in the “Text” area.

    • Images as individual files, images in galleries or as image comparisons, audio and video files, documents and draw.io diagrams (tool for creating drawings and diagrams), which can be added in the “Media” area, are automatically saved in the Media Center. Through the Media Center, files can be used across courses, updated and shared with other users inside and outside the course.

    • In the “Knowledge” section, it is possible to create a quiz with closed question formats (single choice, multiple choice, cloze, numerical input, cloze with dropdown) and feedback. The questions can be created directly on the page or exported from the question pool. The questions can be answered as often as required and participants receive feedback in the form of feedback or the correct answer. No data is “left behind” for the course owner.

    • Under “Other&Design” you can set “HTML text code” and a “Separator” (dividing line for visual demarcation). Set the “Separator” specifically at the end. Moving the “Separator” is always a little more difficult.

    • You can replace a selected layout template by clicking on the cogwheel symbol.

    • Changes are saved automatically.
