What you need to know

Online lectures conducted in alfaview can be filmed using Snagit. (See Internal link opens in a new window:Helpcard 10-060)

Snagit has an integrated editor with which it is possible to edit or add to video recordings afterwards. For example, existing screenshot recordings can be used quickly and easily as a starting point for creating video explanations or step-by-step instructions.

What you have to do

  1. Cut out sequences: You can remove sequences from your recording by selecting the area in the timeline and clicking "Cut" to remove it.

    • The selected sequence will be deleted.

    • Please note that when you do this, you also remove the audio from the video sequence.

  2. Export screenshot(s): Select a position on your timeline with the desired footage by dragging the colorless position arrow. Then click the "Save Frame as PNG" PNG-icon .

    • The screenshot is automatically saved to the Snagit Editor Capture Tray after capture.

    • All screenshots stored in the capture repository can be reused multiple times if needed.

    • If you want to use the screenshot in another program, then click on "File", "Save as" to save the screenshot as an image file in your file directory.

  3. Export animation(s): Select a sequence on your timeline (Start: green marker / End: red marker) and then click the "Make gif files from a video" GIF-icon .

    • The animation is automatically placed in the Snagit Editor's capture tray.

    • All animations stored in the capture tray can be reused multiple times if needed.

    • If you want to use the created animation in another program, then click on "File", "Save as" to save the animation as a GIF file in your file directory.

  4. Use multiple screenshots for a video tutorial: a video recording can be made based on screenshots that have already been created. You can record verbal explanations to the screenshots shown and add visible markers to the screenshots.

    • Either mark your created screenshots in the capture tray (multiple selection possible by pressing the SHIFT key) or open the library by clicking on "Library" in the menu bar and then select your required image files under "Current captures".

    • For the selected screenshot selection, open the context menu with a right click and select the "Create video from images..." option.

    • A new video capture window will open and the preselected screenshots will be displayed in the bottom bar.

    • Switch screenshot view: You can switch between your previously selected screenshots before and during capture by clicking the corresponding thumbnail in the bar at the bottom.

    • If you did not limit the screenshot selection before, all available image files will be displayed in the thumbnails of the bottom bar.

    • Set markers: You can use the clarification tools to add markers or text to your currently displayed screenshot. You can find the tools in the Style Selection menu on the right side of the Snapit Editor. All the favorite tools are available for selection.

  5. Combine multiple screenshots in template: You can combine a number of screenshots or other images in a template, for example, to create a step-by-step tutorial.

    • Either mark your created screenshots in the capture tray (multiple selection possible by pressing the SHIFT key) or open the library by clicking on "Library" in the menu bar and then select your required image files under "Current captures", or another file directory.

    • For the selected screenshot selection, open the context menu with a right-click and select the "Combine into template..." option.

    • Select a suitable template for your application from the possible templates and confirm your selection by clicking on "Next".

    • Assign a main heading for the tutorial and another subheading for each screenshot.

    • The "Combine Into template" box closes and the template is applied. The selected template is displayed filled with the contents.

    • You can still edit and add to the page generated from the template.
