Backing up emails with Webmail

EMAIL 10-140

What you need to know

You want to keep or archive important emails for a longer period of time. By doing so you can restore emails when needed or import them to another computer or email client if necessary.

What you have to do

  1. Start Webmail and click on the folder you want to back up.

    • The dots menu appears (see Figure 1.1).

  2. Click the 3 dots menu and scroll to the "Export" option in the context menu (see Figure 2.1).

    • A dialog box for saving the file will open (see Figure 2.2).

  3. Select "Save file" and confirm with "OK".

    • A ZIP file will now be saved in the "Downloads" folder (default setting) or in the folder you specified.

    • If necessary, copy the file to a folder on your PC to find it again at a later time.

  4. The created ZIP folder contains the mails in EML format.

  5. If you want to read the mails, proceed as follows:

Unzip the ZIP file. Now you can open the EML (email) files in the following ways:

    1. with an email program such as Thunderbird or the Mail app of Windows 10
    2. with an office program (e.g. Outlook)
    3. with a freely available EML viewer
    4. with any text editor
