What you need to know

You would like to set up Microsoft Outlook to manage your HFU mail account. To do so, the HFU email system offers the possibility to use the simple protocol "IMAP". The following instructions show you how to set up Outlook for this purpose.

The instructions refer to Outlook 2016.

What you have to do

  1. Start Outlook.

    • When Outlook is started for the first time, the startup wizard will open automatically to help you set up your email account.

  2. Click the 'New' button under the 'Email' tab. - A new 'Add new email account' window will open.

  3. Select "Internet email". Then confirm with "Next".

  4. If you have already set up an email account in Outlook, select "File" "Account information" and "Add account".

  5. In this step, simply check the box for the "Manual configuration or additional server types" option.

    • Leave all other input fields empty.

    • Then confirm with "Next".

  6. In this step, you are asked about all the settings of your email account.

    • In the "Account type" selection box, select the "IMAP" option.

    • In the input fields "Incoming server" / "Outgoing server (SMTP)" enter "".

    • Click on the "More settings" button - a new 'Internet email settings' window will open.

  7. Switch to the "Outgoing mail server" tab.

    • Check the box "The outgoing mail server (SMTP) requires authentication".

    • Select "Use same settings as for incoming mail server".

  8. Switch to the "Advanced" tab.

    • Change the value of the "Incoming mail server (IMAP)" input field to "993" and select "SSL" as the connection type.

    • Change the value of the "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)" input field to "465" and select "SSL" as the connection type.

  9. Then confirm your entries by clicking "OK" and confirm in the 'Change new email account' window by clicking "Next".

    • The email account setup is complete. Click "Finish" to return to the "Account Settings" window.

    • Your account is set up and ready to use.
