What you need to know
What you have to do
If you are not using a headset, activate echo cancellation to reduce reverberation.
Bring up the settings (gear icon ).
Activate - below the voice activation level - the echo cancellation.
We recommend the use of a headset with microphone to optimise the transmission of audio quality.
Check your voice activation level.
The speech activation level controls the microphone sensitivity. This setting determines the speech volume at which the microphone is activated. You can thus minimise background noise. If it is set too high, your voice may not be transmitted as well.
Click the gear icon and then click "Speech Activation Level".
Make sure that the correct microphone is selected.
Then adjust the slider so that the blue deflection is above the gray dot when speaking.
When using a headset, the value is usually between 30 - 45.
Enable the "Use TCP audio" option.
To do this, click on the gear icon and then on the last menu item "Show all settings".
The "Settings" dialog appears with the "General" menu item selected.
Activate the "Enable experimental functions" option at the bottom of the screen (see Figure 4.1).
In the dialog, switch to the "Network" menu item.
The view switches to the selected "Network" menu item and displays the network options.
Activate the "Use TCP audio" option (see Figure 4.2).
The audio transmission changes from UDP to TCP.
Using a LAN instead of a WLAN connection can also lead to a more stable transmission of picture and sound.
If you have activated VPN: if possible, refrain from establishing a VPN connection to the university network during the online lecture. You can also use alfaview without an existing connection.
