Online event in alfaview cannot be held or continued

FAQ AVIEW-1000

What you need to know

Online events in alfaview can be accessed via rooms.hs-furtwangen.de. After clicking on the corresponding room link, the previously installed alfaview client is started.

During the execution of synchronous online events, many complex technologies (local system, headset, webcam, alfaview client, server infrastructure, internet connection) have to work together flawlessly with many participants at the same time.

A failure of one partial component can force the entire event to be cancelled.

What can I do as a participant or organiser if I can no longer participate in the event?

What you have to do

  1. Check HFU's own outage information platforms (e.g., https://twitter.com/hfu_imz_info/) to determine if a central outage exists.

  2. Before a synchronous online event with participants, define an alternative communication channel (e.g. FELIX: forum, email, course chat ...).

  3. Contact your participants/lecturers on an alternate channel and check if the outage affects only you or if it affects all other participants.

  4. Switch - if possible - to an alternative service (see VidCo tab in FELIX).

  5. The most fragile component in the interaction is the internet connection.

    Make sure that you ...

    • ... are connected with a Lan cable (not with WLAN)

    • ... your internet connection provides an upload of at least 2 mbit

    • ... no other data-hungry applications are using the internet line during the online session.
