What you need to know
The Cisco AnyConnect software allows you to access only internally released services of the university from outside. After connecting, you are a participant in a virtual private network (VPN) and will receive an IP address from the address range of Furtwangen University.
To carry out the installation, you need the following:
- functioning internet connection
- administrator rights to your local computer
- Windows 10 with updates installed
Note: the service desk can only offer support for Windows 10 enquiries.
What you have to do
Login: Open your browser and go to the following address:
Log in with the data of your HFU account (see figure 1.1).
If the login does not work, please log in via a "Network / WLAN /VPN" ticket on https://servicedesk.hs-furtwangen.de.
Now click on AnyConnect (see Figure 2.1) and then on Start AnyConnect (see Figure 2.2).
The "Download & Install" area opens.
Download: Click on the blue "Download for Windows" area and follow the "Instructions" on the download page to download the VPN client.
There is now a file "anyconnect-win-[...].exe" in your download directory.
Installation: Locate your downloaded file, run the file with a double click and confirm administrator rights.
If you are not asked for administrator rights, cancel the installation and run the file by right-clicking on the downloaded file and clicking on the "Run with administrator rights" entry.
Follow the "Instructions" on the download page to install the VPN client. After installation, close the window by clicking "Finish".
There are currently isolated problems where the VPN connection cannot be established when using the Cisco Any Connect client with Windows after the automatic installation to version 4.10.00093. The following message appears: "The secure gateway has terminated the VPN connection. The following message was received from the secure gateway: User requested." We are currently working on a solution.
Run: Locate the "Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobile Client" VPN client entry in your Start menu and double-click to run it.
A small window will now open and the VPN client icon can be found in the taskbar.
By default, this can be found under "All Programs"->"Cisco"->"Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobile Client".
For the first connection, please enter the server address vpn.hs-furtwangen.de in the "Profile" field and confirm by clicking "Connect" (see figure 7.1). This first connection loads the "HFU-VPN2" profile, which you can select directly for later connections and also confirm by clicking on "Connect". The client is then automatically configured to communicate with the university's systems.
If the configuration is successful, the profile "HFU-VPN2" is entered in the white field to the left of "Connect" (see figure 7.2).
If this is not the case, you have to enter the server address "vpn.hs-furtwangen.de" in the white field to the left of "Connect" and click on "Connect" so that the VPN client is configured automatically.
Start VPN connection: Click on "Connect" to start the connection.
An input window will open.
Enter the data of your HFU account here and confirm by clicking on "Ok".
You should now receive a message confirming that the connection has been established.
