What you need to know
The Cisco AnyConnect software allows you to access only internally released services of the university from outside. After connecting, you are a participant in a virtual private network (VPN) and will receive an IP address from the address range of Furtwangen University.
To carry out the installation you need
- a working internet connection,
- a browser (e.g. Safari).
What you have to do
Login: Open your browser and go to the following address:
Log in with the data of your HFU account (see figure 1.1).
If the login does not work, please log in via a ticket "Network / WLAN /VPN" on https://servicedesk.hs-furtwangen.de.
Now click on AnyConnect (see Figure 2.1) and then on Start AnyConnect (see Figure 2.2).
The "Download & Install" area will open.
Download: Click on the blue "Download for MacOS X" area and follow the "Instructions" on the download page to download the VPN client.
The installation package is downloaded.
After successfully downloading the installation package, you can install the AnyConnect client.
Start the AnyConnect client from your program folder.
For the first connection, please enter the server address vpn.hs-furtwangen.de in the "Profile" field and confirm by clicking "Connect". This first connection loads the "HFU-VPN2" profile, which you can select directly for later connections and also confirm by clicking on "Connect". The client is then automatically configured to communicate with the university's systems.
If the configuration is successful, the "HFU-VPN2" profile is entered in the white field to the left of "Connect".
If this is not the case, you have to enter the server address "vpn.hs-furtwangen.de" in the white field to the left of "Connect" and click on "Connect" so that the VPN client is configured automatically.
Enter the access data for your HFU account (see Figure 7.1).
If the login process was successful, you will find the minimized window of the client in the dock or in the menu bar.
Double-click it to see the status (see Figure 7.2).
In some cases, the Cisco AnyConnect software may be blocked. In this case, proceed as follows:
The message "Attention required" appears.
Now select the "Security and data protection area" option under "System settings". The following window appears.
The lock at the bottom left must first be unlocked to give the system permission to install the app from Cisco.
Now click on "Allow". After that you can lock the lock again.
